Boarding Procedures

What is the boarding procedure?

The boarding procedure is straightforward and simply requires the purchase of a travel ticket and presenting yourself at the boarding area.

All tickets, regardless of the purchase channel, contain a QR Code. Once presented to the boarding staff and scanned with a handheld device, the code allows access onboard.

Where can I find the QR Code on my ticket?

For online purchases, the QR Code is in the top-left section of the PDF ticket.
For tickets purchased at the port ticket office, it can be found in front of the boarding pass.

The QR Code must be scanned by boarding personnel to verify the validity of the ticket and include it in the passenger and vehicle manifest for the departing voyage.

If you purchase a round-trip ticket, you will receive two separate travel documents, each with its own QR Code.

Boarding

Once you have your ticket, you may proceed to the boarding area to access the ship.

The boarding staff will scan your ticket using a special reader, which updates the system to confirm that all passengers and vehicles listed in the QR Code have boarded.

Please note: Staff will not collect your boarding pass or any ticket copies, unless explicitly required under specific circumstances by the Company.

If you purchased a ticket with a fare discount (e.g., island residents, members of affiliated organizations), you must present a valid ID at boarding.

Ambulance boarding and access to the priority crossing

On the Strait of Messina line, it is customary to manage the transit of ambulances, whether belonging to the national health service or private.

WHEN CAN THE AMBULANCE ACCESS FROM THE PRIORITY GAP?
Ambulances are generally not entitled to priority at boarding.
Naturally, the circumstance may arise in which it is appropriate to facilitate the transit of the first aid vehicle.
In this case, the determining factor to observe when requesting access through the priority gate is first and foremost the presence on board of a doctor who can request the relief by sending/delivering a specific declaration, as specified below.

HOW AN EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT CAN REQUEST TRANSIT AUTHORIZATION FROM THE PRIORITY GATEWAY

The body or association that must transport a patient by ambulance may request authorization to transit through the priority crossing in the following ways:
- sending an email to the servizioclienti@carontetourist.it.
- contacting customer service on 090.57.37, specifying the booking code and/or travel details.
The request for assistance shall be transmitted to the carrier at least forty-eight hours (48) in advance of the date of carriage.

HOW TRANSIT AUTHORIZATION IS ACTIVATED FROM THE PRIORITY GATE

The transit authorization process from the priority crossing involves the following process:
1.    The Agency/Association shall make the request as provided for in this procedure,
2.    Customer Service sends the declaration form to be completed by the competent doctor who will make the trip,
3.    Customer Service, once it has received the duly completed declaration, engages the company functions responsible for obtaining authorization,
Once authorization has been obtained, the Customer Service Department will:
4.    Inform the Entity/Association of the acceptance of your request and how to qualify, once it arrives in port,
5.    Send service activation request to operational functions.

Attention! The request must be transmitted to the carrier at least forty-eight hours (48) in advance before it becomes necessary; therefore, Customer Service must initiate communications at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled departure time, except in cases where requests, on an extraordinary basis, received beyond the above-mentioned timescales were to be accepted.
