Horizon Environment

A Vision for the Future

We are committed to sailing towards the future with the highest standards of quality and fleet efficiency, while supporting local communities and respecting the environment. Our mission is to hand over a better world to our territories and to future generations.

Our corporate journey is guided by clear, intentional choices aimed at achieving sustainability.

We constantly strive to improve our environmental performance, efficiency, and service quality.
Our focus is to offer a customer-centered service that adapts to the needs of every type of traveler.

We are committed to continuously seeking opportunities for innovation and added value for our customers.
We carefully select partners and suppliers who share our environmental values and operate with transparency and integrity.

We sail toward a more sustainable horizon, with deep respect for the sea, our lifeblood while minimizing our impact on both marine and terrestrial ecosystems.
We care about the planet and future generations. That’s why we continually invest in making our ships more efficient, reducing emissions, choosing eco-friendly materials, and supporting green research initiatives.

Concrete Actions

From renewing our fleet to reducing plastic usage, from employee training to inclusive policies—these are just a few of the impactful steps we’ve taken.
Each one represents progress, and together they’ve already led to significant results.

In 2023, the RINA certification body conducted an ESG assessment to evaluate how well sustainability values—environmental, social, and governance—are integrated into our business practices.

The Group scored 81.78 out of 100.

We’ve made great progress—and we’re just getting started.

Nerea

Nerea

The Islander with a Green Heart

Caronte & Tourist proudly presents Nerea, a next-generation hybrid vessel optimized for routes to the smaller islands.
Designed to transport passengers, vehicles, heavy goods, and hazardous materials simultaneously.

Special attention was given to fuel efficiency and emissions reduction, thanks to the use of low-impact alternative fuels.

Nerea is a bifuel hybrid vessel that combines cutting-edge technology, environmental benefits, and a comfortable passenger experience.

Elio

Elio

The Flagship of the C&T Fleet

Elio is the first ferry in the Mediterranean powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)—a fuel with minimal environmental impact.

Launched in 2018, Elio marked the beginning of our “green fleet” journey.
Designed to serve the Strait of Messina with maximum efficiency and minimum environmental impact, the vessel features dual-fuel engines (Diesel + LNG), setting a new standard for sustainable maritime travel.

Thanks to LNG, Elio reduces CO₂ emissions by 25%, NOx by 85%, and PM and SOx by 99%, while emitting no sulfur oxides or particulates.

Sustainability Report

Publishing a Sustainability Report is both a strategic choice and a responsibility.

Caronte & Tourist Group released its first report in 2016, showcasing concrete achievements in environmental protection, employee development, community support, and future-focused governance.

The report summarizes the Group’s overall performance and highlights key environmental, social, and economic impacts.
It serves as a transparent communication tool for engaging with stakeholders and the wider community.

Since 2023, the Group has participated in the Sustainability Report Award promoted by Corriere della Sera, competing with hundreds of national companies committed to ESG principles.
In 2025, for the third consecutive year, C&T Group received the Sustainability Seal, confirming the strength and consistency of its sustainability journey.
