The arrival of the Elio on the Strait of Messina - the first passenger ship in the Mediterranean powered by LNG - has represented the most tangible act of our environmental policy, which includes small daily gestures.
Still, research does not stop. So, we are proud to present Nerea, a hybrid bi-fuel ship.

Propulsion
The ship has two azimuth thrusters rotating 360° to direct the thrust according to the Captain’s requests.
The Diesel-Gas/Electric propulsion guarantees excellent flexibility and optimization of consumption at different speeds.
Adding two bow-thrusters further improves the manoeuvrability, thus allowing manoeuvre and docking even in adverse weather conditions.

Speed, manoeuvrability and efficiency
With an installed propulsion power of approximately 5000 kW, the ship can reach a maximum speed of 18 knots.
The hull is efficient and allows significant savings in consumption and especially emissions, besides reaching greater speeds.
The installed propulsion system allows the implementation of Dynamic Positioning systems to precisely and safely manoeuvre even in adverse weather conditions thanks to a simple joystick.

The bow thruster sizing ensures excellent manoeuvring performance, guaranteeing territorial continuity even in extreme weather and sea conditions.
Environmental benefits
The company aims to reduce its environmental impact as much as possible. Therefore, we chose hybrid power supply engines with Diesel-Liquefied Natural Gas fuel.
The silicone-based hull paints reduce the use of biocides harmful to the marine environment, minimizing the hydrodynamic friction resistance.
Thanks to the batteries, the ship can stop in port without using combustion engines, eliminating emissions. In addition, the photovoltaic system on the deckhouse deck covers part of the energy needs of the onboard utilities.
Passenger services
Access is via an escalator or lift from the garage directly to the passenger deck.
From there, it is possible to go to the cabin or the other spaces on board.
We paid particular attention to welcoming Persons with Reduced Mobility by simplifying access to the check-in areas and cabins.
